07 FEB. Mentzendorf Tasting in London Covent Garden. Wow, what a day! Set in the Royal Opera House. Bollinger and Ayala to start with. Then taken through some stunning Burgundy En Primeur of Domaine Chanson. 2010 looks set to be an interesting year in this Domaine! Next up is a whirl wind trip around the world, 1st port is of call is the Rhone valley with Mr Chapoutier, then on to his various vineyards in Australia, Alsace and Southern France. Some lovely wines from Hawkes Bay. Bought back a few memories of my trip last year. Some cracking wines there if you're prepared to take the plunge. Last thing of the day..... Tawny Port masterclass with Adrian Bridge, MD of Taylors. 14 different Tawnys, accumulating with a 40yr. But the show stopper was a tawny port, 157 years old. Taylors Scion. Google the name and you'll see just how special. It's a tough job!

01 FEB How far does you wine merchant go for you? This morning we had a visit from a pensioner that had re discovered an antique bottle used for dispensing Angostura Bitters.The only problem was that she needed a new cork for the seal/pourer. We got to work and carved a cork to fit the bottle for her as she would never find a cork of this size to fit .

The lady was very grateful with the handy work and purchased some wine and Bitters.We do go that extra mile for you so if you need a wine/spirit not listed please contact us.

Just to show you how popular the My Sauvignon is we sold 32 cases to one customer at the weekend and a further two were delivered personally in Tenterden last night .....she also asked us if we would collect some 'fish and chips' from the local chippy.Not sure if thats a good thing or not but we go that extra mile when we can.

Thanks to all the visitors to the store last night ie Tenterden Late Night Shopping what a great evening.We had a new brewery with us Moodleys from Penshurst Kent.They visited us and sampled their beers with the customers,one of the brewers is the youngest in the country, at 19 Jamima is going far, with these truly superb examples of real ale. Toffee vodka and mulled wine was also on offer.

PLEASE READ THE LATEST NEWS ON THE BEAUJOLAIS NOUVEAU IT READS WELL.Well we would say that as we want to get behind it,its fun not to be taken to serious, any way read on.

The first impression is of course the dazling colour.The Beaujolais are striking in their brilliant deep crimson robe! Well its nearly time to start getting excited about Beaujolais,with the third Thursday in November we have the release of  Beaujolais Nouveau.We will be taking delivery of this stock the week commencing Monday the 14th.If you are a tradionalist drop by and get your hands on a bottle or two, we will be open at 9.00 am so you can grab yours for lunch later or even a Beaujolais Breakfast.See below from the man himself.

Check out the events page it has details of our latest tasting for this comimg Friday a few tickets are left. Yesterday was a treat despite us losing in the Rugby, we cracked open a couple of bottles as we normaly do on a Saturday.We had on show the Decanter Trophy winner for single variety red over £10.00 this was the Emma Bonarda from the Zuccardi winery in Argentina.Superb, big gutsy flavours, a grape variety not often seen and overshadowed by the Malbecs from this country.To accompany this wine we opened the 'Q' Series Tempranillo my favourite of the day,followed up by  a cracking Torrontes 'Vida Organica' this sold out within the hour, again when was the last time or the first time you shared a glass of this.

Marcus sneakily opened a bottle of the newly listed Rioja the entry levell ,'La Vendimia' from winemaker Alvaro Palacios this man surely knows how to make wine,in fact some bottles sell at up to £400.This was a delight a  superb New-Style Rioja from the vinous magician. The Vendimia has far more Garnacha than one may expect (50/50 Garnacha and Tempranillo) and made by whole-bunch fermentation then aged only briefly in oak barrels. We finished the afternoon with the remains of a bottle we opened 10 days ago and yes it was still showing well,the Fortified Malbec called Malamado.Yes unusual but a great alternative to traditional Port that you must try next time you are in the shop or just go for it and order now.

10th June - Great feedback from our recent cigar, cognac and rum night, with one guest, Trevor Singh, commenting " May i take this opportunity to say what an outstanding evening you put together for the Cognac and Rum night on the 10th June, the quality of both the Cognac and the Rum was second to none and it was extremely well hosted by the speakers on the night James Mayer and Peter McKinley. The cigars from James again outstanding and made the whole experience well worth the entrance fee, and very pleased with my purchase. If you are holding an event again please don't hesitate to contact me to see if i am able to attend. On 27th May 2011 we had a visit from the French TV Station ARTE. They spent two hours here filming the shop and us discussing the wonderful wines of Kent. They were mighty impressed with the Gusboune new Rosé and the Sandhurst Red, accompanied with Silcocks Soft blue cheese.
